Believing that until proven otherwise our fatality won’t catch up with us for a great many years.
This might turn out to be the case or it might not. We never really know; just go on as best we can in the present moment.
And Rufio is no different.
We spent the day taking the bike apart without finding obvious oil starvation problems. Lots of smooth, shiny metal where we expected to find chew marks.
There could certainly be problems later on, but until that moment, we’ll just carry on as best we can.
Longevity and reliability the goal, maintenance the call of the day.
Valves adjusted, sprockets and chain replaced, valve cover bolt helicoiled, KACRectomy performed, rear bearing replaced, fresh brake pads installed. Rufio refreshed, skills gained, resume padded.
I’m a willing and dedicated grasshopper working diligently under the tutelage of my moto masters.
Bolt on, bolt off.
21 days down. Many to come.[/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_image type=”none” src=”http://mallorypaige.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Screen-Shot-2015-07-08-at-5.09.22-PM.png” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_line][x_creative_cta padding=”25px 25px 25px 25px” text=”Read More from

Keep at it, Mallory.
You have good taste in dogs and bikes, so your karma is good, too.
ADVriders is down for the weekend, so I do not know any details of your mechanical investigation. Need parts?
Thank you!
Looks like I’m good on parts for the moment. Just got back from my sister’s wedding and am prepping to head out tomorrow to start the test ride down to Homer.
Mallory
Met you at motoquest today…i also am heading to seward and homer. Best wishes and ride safe.
Steve…50 states on mc
I’m trying to imagine what happened first with your moto. Did the oil plug fall out first,
but how could that affect the automatic compression release assembly? I think the KACR failed long before the oil plug fell out and the aluminum shavings probably came from that area of the cylinder head. So awsome that there wasn’t any evidence of oil starvation damage in the valve train area of the head. I’m thinking that that engine has lots of life left in it hope for the best
Hannu.
So exciting to have met you on the day you crossed off your 50th state – woohoo! Hope our paths may cross again.
I agree, Hannu. Most likely the KACR failed long before and the two incidents weren’t really related. It all worked out for the best as now the bike is in tip top condition thanks to my moto masters:)
