To me this painting represents the hope of the open road and the possibilities that become available to us when we are daring enough to try something new, embrace discomfort, and live life to the fullest.
I hope you feel this positivity and possibility every time you look at this painting.

The Backstory
I think it’s only fitting that my first big painting for sale is inspired by a time in life when a low point lead to a new adventure. Here’s the story…
Many years ago I faced the sudden end of an 11 year relationship. Feeling devastated and lost, I did the only thing I could think of…
I sold everything I owned, bought an old VW camper van, and hit the road with Baylor the Dog.

This adventure immediately forced me to learn new things - sewing to reupholster the van, driving a stick, changing the oil, traveling alone, and much more.

With each new skill, my confidence grew and heartache eased. I still cried nearly every day and had no clue where life would lead, but at least I was doing something I’d always dreamt of.
This is the adventure that built my confidence and opened my eyes to the goodness of people across the country. From needing a jumpstart at a rural gas station to getting lost in the city, people from all across the United States offered me kindnesses big and small.
Trying new things is generally terrifying. Even with practice, I still fear looking like a fool or getting it wrong, but this van adventure taught me that putting ourselves out there is the only real way to learn, grow, and unlock new experiences we haven't even realized are possible.

And so I wanted to create a painting that encapsulated that moment of takeoff. Heading into the unknown takes a lot of courage, but will be oh-so worth it in the end.
