It’s something you take for granted traveling in a car. Air up, down, warm, cool.
On a bike it’s pull over, layers on, layers off. And more often, it’s, “whoa, I’m kinda chilly” keep driving. Or, “holy hell, it is outrageously hot. Will this flat eastern Washington plain never end?” just keep driving.
And the wind. Suddenly even a slight breeze is noticeable. A hot prairie wind combined with a near constant flow of semi-trucks and suddenly the normally passable Yakima became a veritable oasis.
A spot to sit in the shade. Grab an icy cold smoothie. Cool off. Wander the air-conditioned hardware store, picking up a few supplies. By dusk, we’d properly cooled down, rehydrated and gotten a second wind. Zipping through the cool evening air an absolute delight, we headed to the Yakima Canyon.
Camp spot secured. I reviewed the map while Baylor went to work on a bone. Dark setting in, so tent up, sleeping bag unrolled, pad inflated, I turned to invite Baylor in. Having snuck down to the river for a quick dip, he stood there grinning and dripping.
I sighed. Oh well, let’s go to bed. By the light of my headlamp, I studied the Clymer manual. The pungent smell of wet fur filling the tent and contented snores of a tired dog lulling me to sleep.
Three days down. Many to come.[/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_slider animation=”slide” slide_time=”7000″ slide_speed=”1000″ slideshow=”false” random=”false” control_nav=”false” prev_next_nav=”true” no_container=”false”][x_slide][/x_slide][x_slide][/x_slide][x_slide][/x_slide][x_slide][/x_slide][/x_slider][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_feature_headline level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ icon=”motorcycle” class=”center-text “]Get Bonus Stories[/x_feature_headline][x_text class=”center-text “]Each week we’ll send you behind the scenes stories & pics from Operation Moto Dog.
