Up the East Coast into Northeastern Canada – New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Then through the Northern USA to Bend, OR. Bend turned out to be such a delight that Baylor and I now call it home.A 1973 tin-top VW Weekender. Had a fold out bed and storage, but not the full kitchen set up. I once got up to 70 going down a long, steep hill. Usually slow and steady was the game. Freeways were semi-terrifying, farm to market roads a delight.
Getting passed by a weiner mobile – twice – simultaneously sad and hilarious.Nope. It was just me, Baylor and Goliath.Not really. More than anything, this adventure showed me how kind and good people are. Everywhere I went someone offered to help, invited me to share a meal, generally went out of their way to be lovely. People are good. I will always believe that.It’s quite impossible to pick a favorite. Having never been East of Kansas, most everything was an entirely new experience. I’ll forever remember the tiny Dauphin Island Ferry, the snow-like white sand blowing across the road near Fort Walton Beach, the shock and delight at how warm the gulf waters are, side of the road lobster in Maine and the comical beauty of the countless random roadside statues and attractions.MORE ADVENTURES
