The Past is Just the Prologue

April 25, 2015 | Choose Happy

We were spread out around the loft. Curled in couch corners scribbling, seated at tables typing furiously. We’d each brought something different to the workshop. A story uniquely our own.

The woman across from me cleared her throat. Spoke up.

I feel stuck. How do you write about what happened without getting bogged down in it?

I knew exactly how she felt. After experiencing the beauty of heartbreak, I often couldn’t determine how to move forward – on page and in life.

Our host for the day thought it over carefully.

I think what happened could just be a prologue. It’s not what your story is about now, it’s just a piece of the past.

Easy. Simple. Perfect.

What happened before is not now.

Move on from the past, from the prologue.

Don’t be afraid to start the next chapter.

Write your story.
