There’s a sense that everyone else easily navigates life. Easily figures out what to do. Easily discovers what their dreams are. Easily goes after said dreams.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret, though. Nobody – and I mean nobody – has it completely, all-the-time figured out. There are struggles, doubts, and tears behind every success.
Take me for example. On the surface I’ve had a year of adventures, of following my VW traveling dreams and all around good times. And while that’s completely accurate, behind the scenes I’ve dealt with the unexpected implosion of a 10-year relationship and the dissolution of the life I knew.
Not surprisingly there has been plenty of time spent flung on a couch, weeping dramatically. What is surprising, though, is how much beauty and fun there has been. Amongst the darkness there is so much light.
And I’ve heard the same story time and time again from amazing people along the way. At first glance they seem to have the perfect life – successful businesses, amazing partners, dream lives. At closer review, though, you realize they are simply human, struggles and all. They have stories of death, of tragedy, of failure and fear. Indeed there is much love and happiness, but it doesn’t come without the difficulties.
So the next time you’re stressing that everyone else has it all figured out, just remember that what you’re seeing probably isn’t the entire story. We’re all in this together. And we all have darkness with our light.
